literally white teachers with non-european names tho

saying that as a white teacher myself.  I feel so bad when I can’t pronounce a student’s name off the bat, but I at least make it a priority to get it right.  Many teachers see non-European names as a threat, and give up on pronouncing it before they even try.  These teachers treat students with non-European names as troublemakers that are less educated or intelligent as their peers.

As someone with the name Huvra pronounced HUH-VA-RAH, I have had plenty of experiences where teachers just look at my name and it’s like a little part of their soul has died.

People are still good. For some reason the negativity is all we pay attention to, but there are still good things happening in the world. We just need to be reminded of that once in a while.
